Situated at the Eastern end of the Medway towns in North East Kent. We are 10 minutes from Junction 4 of the M2 motorway, giving easy access to London and Canterbury.

Rainham railway station is 10 minutes’ walk from the church, with excellent links to London and the South Coast.

Building

A large Grade I listed building in excellent state of repair containing a church office, toilet facilities and kitchenette and a new multipurpose space.

What are we seeking from our new Vicar?

We are seeking a priest who can help us to develop our potential to be a church which continues to be central to the life of Rainham and its community. We want to be a church which grows and develops our congregation to better live and express their faith in the world.

Qualities:

A person of deep faith enlivened by prayer who can develop a vision and strategy for our church community.

A team player with good communication and management skills.

An experienced parish priest who has a collaborative and enabling approach.

A measure of self-awareness, openness and humility, warmth and humour.

The ability to recognise talents and potential in others and be prepared to encourage, nurture and equip them.

Worship

St. Margaret’s offers a variety of services, within a broadly central tradition, which aim to be accessible to those from a wide variety of church backgrounds and at different stages on their faith journey.

Children

Our primary ministry to young persons and their families is currently thorough our monthly Messy Church. We also have an excellent link with our church school as well as the other schools in the parish.

Vicarage

A 4 bedroomed detached house with study, large lounge, dining room, cloakroom, kitchen and a utility area. There is ample parking on the drive and large front and rear gardens. A short 10-minute walk from the church.

The Team

A half time assistant priest, 3rd year curate, church administrator and a licensed lay assistant make up the staff team.

They are ably supported by churchwardens and a wide team of paid and voluntary staff.

Baptisms

There are about 40 baptisms each year, usually held at 4pm on the second Sunday of the month. Baptism preparation is currently undertaken by our curate.

Baptism families are welcomed to the church at an all age service preceding their baptism.

Music

A robed 4 part choir, paid organist and a worship group offer a variety of music at St. Margarets.

Groups

There are a range of groups that meet outside of Sunday worship.

These include a coffee morning, house groups, Ladies who Lunch, the Churchyard Gang, Men’s Breakfast, Mother’s Union and the Friends of St. Margarets.

Links

St. Margaret’s has many links both within the local community and elsewhere including Churches Together in Rainham and a seperate fraternal of church ministers.

St. Margarets also has a link parish of St. Philip’s Tafara in the Diocese of Harare, Zimbabwe.

Festivals & Other Services

Services for major festivals are well supported by our congregation.

Christmas is a very busy time in St. Margaret’s while Remembrance Sunday sees the church filled to capacity

Weddings

With a lovely church building and a large parish, we tend to attract a number of weddings – averaging 15 per year.
